It is in the hills between Srebrenica and Bratunac in northeastern Bosnia and Herzegovina. It was built in 1242 by Serbian King Stefan Uroš I (r. 1243–1276), and was a ''metochion'' (property) of Hilandar. The foundation and walls of the church were unearthed and renovated in 1850. In 1989 a new roof was put on the church. In 1992, during the beginning of the Bosnian War, Bosnian forces demolated the monastery.
